Lynx and Field Hockey

More about Lynx

History of the team
The Hilliard Lynx Field hockey team was organized in 2006 by Cami McArney. The team consisted of 12 girls coached by Jason Perlman. The next year the team had 24 girls. The first two years the team played junior varsity games.

In 2009, a Middle School Team was formed. Thirteen girls coached by Emily Lenko played that year. The High School team, with twenty five girls and coach David Dennis played both varsity and JV games.

2009 was also the year the Hilliard Lynx Booster was formed. The Booster's mission is to support the teams and promote girls field hockey in Hilliard.

In 2010 nineteen girls played on the High School team with Coach Dennis. The Middle School team grew to twenty girls.

More about field hockey

Field hockey is a fall sport. The pre-season starts in August and the season runs through mid-October. Field hockey, also called hockey, is an outdoor game played by two opposing teams of 11 players each who use sticks curved at the striking end to hit a small, hard ball into their opponent’s goal. It is called field hockey to distinguish it from the similar game played on ice. The game is played by two teams of 11 players on a rectangular ground. The field is 100 yards long and 60 yards wide, and it is marked with a centre line and two 25-yard lines. The goals are 4 yards wide and 7 feet high. For a goal (which counts for one point) to be scored, the ball must go into the goal and, while within the shooting circle (semicircle), must have been touched by the stick of an attacker.

The usual composition of a team is five forwards, three halfbacks, two fullbacks, and a goalkeeper. A game consists of two halves of 35 minutes each, with an intermission of 5–10 minutes.

Off season clubs and camps

Off season clubs and camps

In the off season there are opportunities to play both indoor and outdoor. There are two field hockey clubs in Columbus providing the opportunity to enhance skills and compete at a national level. Many of our athletes participate at some level with club field hockey. There are also summer camps and spring play days available.
